CONVENER CORNER: MEET LISA ERISMAN!
For those of you who dread the treadmill and tedious workout routines, we just may have the answer for you. Communiversity convener Lisa Erisman teaches a Jazzercise class at Crossroads Church Fellowship Hall in Waldo, and couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.
“Fitness should be fun,” Erisman said. “Jazzercise doesn’t require any previous dance training. It’s designed to be motivational and easy to follow. Anyone can do this!”
For those of you who aren’t familiar, “Jazzercise” is a form of exercise that meshes together a variety of different routines, such as jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing movements. Erisman has been an instructor of this popular dance-exercise movement for seven years.
“I enjoyed dancing and needed to get in shape, so this was a natural fit,” Erisman said. “Jazzercise is home for me. I love to welcome people into my home to experience what I love. My whole family is there: my students; my sister, who is also an instructor; and my kids. We have childcare during several class times.”
Erisman began offering Jazzercise classes through Communiversity and found that she had opened up the opportunity for an entirely new group of people.
“I enjoy meeting the participants through Communiversity,” she said. “We’ve had some fantastic folks find us through Communiversity that might not have otherwise.”
In addition to having fun and breaking up the monotony of traditional workouts, Erisman uses the energy she experiences from Jazzercise as a way to enhance other personal aspects of her life as well.
“My students motivate me every day,” Erisman said. “Each one has their own story. Some are about improving fitness, some are about stress relief, and some are all about weight loss. Each and every one is important, whether it’s two pounds, 20 pounds, or 100 pounds—true story! I love hearing about what each student has lost and gained. Some have gained killer arms and some have lost their blood pressure medications. Some just earn time for them. It’s the cheapest therapy around!”
